Eata Technologies.

This policy explains how Eata Technologies ("we") handles information about users of the iOS app "Eata" (the "App"). If this English version differs from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Information we collect

  • Account: the identifier we receive when you sign in with Apple or Google. If we receive an email address, we use it only to identify your account.
  • Profile: display name, username, profile photo and your taste type result.
  • Posts: photos taken with the in-app camera, comments, place ratings, reactions and tags. Location and other metadata are removed from photos before upload.
  • Places: the Apple Maps ID of places attached to posts or your "want to go" list. We do not store place names, addresses or coordinates; they are fetched from Apple Maps when shown. Home-cooked posts never include a location.
  • Friend connections: friend requests, approvals, invite codes, blocks and reports.
  • Location: used on your device only when searching for nearby places. We do not store your location on our servers.
  • Notifications: if you allow push notifications, a device token to deliver them.

2. How we use information

  • To provide the App's features (posting, sharing with friends, place records, notifications)
  • To prevent abuse and review reports
  • To answer inquiries and improve the App

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not send your posts to external AI services.

3. Who can see your content

Posts are shown only to friends you have approved. Your profile is shown only to you, your friends, people you have a pending request with, people with mutual friends, and others within the limits defined by the App.

4. Sharing with third parties

We do not share personal information with third parties without your consent, except as required by law. We use the following services to operate the App:

  • Supabase (database, authentication and photo storage, hosted in the Tokyo region, Japan)
  • Apple (Sign in with Apple, Apple Maps, push notifications)
  • Google (Sign in with Google)

5. Retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account exists. You can delete your posts at any time.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the App, or by contacting us. When you do, we immediately erase:

  • Your profile, profile photo and TasteType result
  • Your posts and photos, and the comments and reactions on them
  • Comments and reactions you left on friends' posts, and your tags on their posts
  • Your friend connections, invite code, blocks, place ratings, want-to-go list and all-time best places
  • Reports you sent

If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke the App's connection to your Apple account. Photos and text posted by your friends remain theirs. Information left in server backups is overwritten and removed after a limited period. Information we are required by law to keep is excluded.

6. Security

All communication is encrypted. Photos are kept in private storage and delivered only through time-limited URLs. Database access is restricted per user.

7. Children

The App is not for children under 13.
